Overview of applying for a Blue Badge
Blue Badges help people with disabilities or health conditions park closer to their destination.
To get a Blue Badge you must meet an eligibility criteria, check who can apply for a Blue Badge on GOV.UK
If you meet the criteria to apply you can make your application on the GOV.UK website.
You will need to submit proof of your eligibility with your application form on GOV.UK and where relevant provide:
- a passport quality photograph, showing your head and shoulders
- proof of identity such as a birth certificate, passport or driving licence
- current proof of address such as a Council Tax bill or government letter within the last 12 months
- proof of benefits within the last 12 months, if you get any
- current medical evidence within the last 12 months
It would be helpful if you also have:
- your National Insurance number, if you have one
- the details of your current Blue Badge, if you are reapplying

Blue Badge application fee
It's free to make an application for a Blue Badge.
If your Blue Badge application is successful there's a £10 fee to cover the cost of producing a badge.
You can make a £10 payment during the online application process in advance of knowing the outcome of your application.

When you'll hear about your application
Once you have submitted your application you will receive an acknowledgement.
It may take 12 weeks or longer to assess your application and you may be invited to attend a mobility assessment which will be carried out by an independent healthcare provider.
There is no need to contact us while your application is in progress.

Approved Blue Badge applications
We will contact you to let you know we've ordered your badge.
If you didn't make your £10 payment on the online form, you will need to make this payment before we send you your Blue Badge.
Allow up to 10 days from the date of payment for your Blue Badge to arrive.
Unsuccessful Blue Badge applications
If you can't get a Blue Badge we will write to you to explain why.
You have the right to appeal our decision.
Beware of scams
It's free to apply for a Blue Badge. There's a £10 fee to cover the cost of producing a badge if you're successful.
Please be aware of Blue Badge scams who may charge you more than £10 for an application.
We do not accept application forms supplied by these websites.
Renew your Blue Badge
Blue Badges usually last up to 3 years and they are not automatically renewed.
We ask everyone to renew their Blue Badge by reapplying for them again.
This allows us to check:
- if you still meet the criteria to have a Blue Badge
- your contact details are correct
- we have a current photograph of you for your new Blue Badge
When to reapply
Reapply for your Blue Badge as soon as possible and don't wait until the badge is about to expire.
We will need to assess your application and we may invite you to attend an independent mobility assessment.

You will need to resubmit your relevant proof of identity, address and benefits.

It's free to reapply for a Blue Badge.
There's a £10 fee to cover the cost of producing a badge if you're successful.

When you'll receive your Blue Badge
Please allow a minimum of 12 weeks for us to process your application.
Expired Blue Badges
Do not use your badge if it has expired.
You will receive a parking fine called a Penalty Charge Notice if you display an expired Blue Badge.
