Get ready to vote
The Mayoral and London Assembly elections and two Barnet by-elections are taking place on Thursday 6 May 2021 – just four short weeks away.
The list of Mayoral and London Assembly candidates is now live, including a record number of Mayoral candidates to choose from.
By-elections in Barnet’s Edgware and East Barnet wards will also be held on Thursday 6 May to elect one new councillor for each ward. The lists of candidates standing for these elections will be available on Friday 9 April.
Voters will receive three ballot papers when they go to vote: one for the Mayor, one for the London-wide Assembly Members and one for the Barnet and Camden Constituency Assembly Member.
Voters in Edgware and East Barnet wards will receive a fourth ballot paper to elect a new councillor in the by-elections.
With four weeks to go to election day, it’s time to get ready to vote:
- Make sure you are registered. If you are not already registered to vote, apply here: www.gov.uk/register-to-vote. All applications must be received by Monday 19 April 2021.
- Do you plan to vote by post? Register for a postal vote now: www.barnet.gov.uk/postalvote. All postal vote applications must be received by 5pm on Tuesday 20 April 2021.
- If you are already registered for a postal vote, voting packs should start to arrive from 24 April. Complete and return your pack as soon as possible and don’t forget to post it back to arrive before 10pm on polling day.
- Do you plan to vote in person? If you are registered to vote, you should have received your poll card already. Some polling places have changed from previous elections, check your poll card or visit www.wheredoIvote.co.uk to make sure you know where to go on election day.
If you are heading to the polls, try to avoid peak times (6pm to 9pm), wear a face covering, sanitise your hands before you enter the polling venue, bring your own pen or pencil and keep a safe distance from others.
We are doing everything we can to make polling stations safe but additional COVID-19 safety measures means it will take longer than usual to cast your vote in person and there will be a queue.
