Recycling and refuse collection days will be revised over the festive period to work around the Christmas and New Year bank holidays.
Christmas bin collections
These changes will be in place from the week commencing 21 December. Blue recycling bin and black refuse bin collections will resume from the week commencing 11 January 2021 on residents’ normal collection day. Details of revised dates can be found at www.barnet.gov.uk/christmasbincollections.
The annual pause to the garden waste bin collection service began on 5 December 2020 and will run for six weeks up until 15 January 2021. Residents who have signed up to the service can check their next collection date in the new year from 30 November at www.barnet.gov.uk/recycling. Subscribers will also be emailed a reminder before collections resume in January.
Residents can still sign up now for fortnightly garden waste collections for the reduced price of £40 at www.barnet.gov.uk/gardenwaste.
Real Christmas trees will be collected from 8 January 2021 through to the end of the month. If residents would like their real Christmas tree to be collected, they must ensure it has all decorations and tree lights removed, is cut in half and is placed at the boundary of their property by Friday 8 January.

Unwanted household items can be taken to Reuse and Recycling Centre, Summers Lane, N12 0RF where most of them can be recycled. Residents should make sure they have made a booking before visiting the site. Find out more at www.nlwa.gov.uk. Please note the booking website does not work on Internet Explorer.
Any flattened cardboard that doesn’t fit in residents’ blue recycling bins can be put out alongside the bin in pieces no larger than one-metre squared. Christmas cards and wrapping paper that have any glitter or foil on them cannot be recycled.
Used batteries can be recycled by placing them in a clear bag on top of the blue recycling bin. Batteries, battery packs and other electrical items must not be disposed of in any household bins. These items can cause fires in collection vehicles and sorting facilities, risking the safety of residents and collection crews.
