Barnet Council’s Cabinet approved plans (3 March) to introduce a food waste collection service to all households across the borough by the end of March 2026.

The service is already being offered to schools and businesses in Barnet.

By recycling food waste separately, households will contribute to creating a cleaner environment and help towards Barnet’s ambitions to become a net zero-carbon borough by 2042.

Households will be provided with appropriate containers, ahead of the service roll out next year.

Cllr Alan Schneiderman, Barnet Council’s Cabinet Member for Environment and Climate Change, said:

“This is great news as many residents are regularly asking when a separate food waste collection service will come back to Barnet. Not only will this service help residents to increase recycling, but this is an important contribution towards creating a more sustainable future for Barnet, and a step closer to achieving our net zero-carbon ambitions by 2042.”

The council will be communicating with all households nearer to the launch of the service.
