Edgware town centre
Barnet Council has supported the borough’s first Business Improvement District (BID) in Edgware following a favourable vote from local businesses in a recent ballot. The BID aims to attract investment of up to £800,000 during the initial five-year term.
Over the past year, the BID steering group, consisting of local businesses, TfL, Ballymore, and Barnet Council, has conducted extensive consultations to understand the priorities of businesses in Edgware.
The BID aims to bring together businesses to collectively invest in the management and marketing of their town centre, with the aim of revitalising the area’s economy and creating a thriving business community.
Cllr Anne Clarke, Barnet’s Small Business Champion and Cabinet Member for Community Wealth Building, said:
"As the first BID in Barnet, the Edgware BID marks an important moment in our partnership with communities and businesses.
“We care a great deal about our places and the people who live and work in our town centres, and by establishing this BID, we can foster a stronger dialogue between the council and the business community in Edgware.
“By working together, we hope that we can make Edgware a place for businesses new and old to thrive.”
The BID will be funded through a small levy on local businesses based on their rateable value, with the council itself contributing as a levy payer. The generated funds will be allocated towards various services and initiatives, including physical improvements such as cleaning and greening, promoting the town centre, enhancing security measures, and providing a unified voice for the business community.
