About the service
This service is managed by the council’s Public Health Team, and is delivered on our behalf by accredited stop smoking practitioners at contracted GP surgeries and pharmacies. It provides structured support and treatment for individuals who want to stop smoking. Anyone who lives in Barnet and/or works or studies in the borough can access this service.
We offer this service because the Health and Social Care Act 2012 section 12 places a duty on local authorities to take such steps as it considers appropriate for improving the health of the people in its area by:
- providing information and advice
- providing services or facilities designed to promote healthy living. Whether by helping individuals to address behaviour that is detrimental to health or in any other way.
The council chooses to provide a stop smoking service as part of this duty.
The Health and Social Care Act also allows us to use personal information for research purposes and this covers the collection and analysis of stop smoking service data by the council.
The service will communicate with and share information about your medical health and quit attempt with your GP and other medical professionals involved in your care.
We may contact you by telephone and/or email to discuss the outcome of your quit attempt and your experience of the service.
The service sends quarterly performance reports to NHS Digital, which do not contain any identifiable information about individuals.
