About builders parking permits
You can apply for builders parking permits if you are carrying out works from a premises in a Controlled Parking Zone (CPZ)
You can use the permit to park in a Resident Permit Holders Only or Permit Holders Only parking places within the controlled hours.
Signs on the street will give more information about the zone and its operating hours.
We offer a specific vehicle builders parking permit and an any registration builders parking permit.
The specific vehicle builders parking permits are virtual, which means you do not need to display anything in your vehicle. Your permit is electronic and is associated with your vehicle registration number.
Patrolling Civil Enforcement Officers will be able to view your permit on their handheld computers.
The any registration builders parking permit is a printed permit, which means that you would need to display the permit as per the terms and conditions of use.
You can apply for a 12 month or a 1 month builders permit.
Households can hold up to a maximum of 3 builders parking permits at any one time.
You will receive email renewal reminders in advance of the permit expiry date.
You should allow at least 5 working days for your printed permit to arrive once you have completed your order. The permits are posted via the Royal Mail recorded delivery service, which means that someone must be available to sign for it.
We will not replace permits which are lost in the post but can assist customers to locate orders by providing the Royal Mail tracking information.
Apply for a builders parking permit
To apply for a builders parking permit you will need:
- proof on headed paper demonstrating you are carrying out work at a property in a Controlled Parking Zone (CPZ) - i.e invoice or written quotation.
- a valid email address
- your credit or debit card details, we do not accept AMEX

We may contact you to provide further evidence at a later date for fraud audit purposes.
Accepted document formats are PDF, JPG, JPEG or BMP.
Changes to your parking permit or account details
If you need to:
- Update your contact details
- Update your address details
- Change your vehicle or vehicle registration number

Renew a builders parking permit
We will send you email reminders 4 weeks, 2 weeks and the day before your current permit is due to expire. Follow the link in the email to renew your permit.
Emails from NSL Apply should appear in your inbox and are sent from Barnet.Permits@nsl.co.uk
Please check your spam and junk folders before contacting us.
We may request current proof if you have renewed your parking permit for 3 or more subsequent years since it was first provided. If this is the case it will show 'expired' next to the document type or proof being requested.
Please note that the price shown under the Permit Details tab in your NSL Apply parking permit account is reflective of the previous charging period and the price shown under the Renew tab is reflective of the current charging period. Therefore, please view the current charge listed under the Prices section of this webpage prior to renewing your parking permit.
Cancel your permit
If you no longer require your permit, you can cancel the permit in your account.
Once cancelled, a pro rata refund will be calculated from the date the permit has been cancelled on the system.
The refund should automatically be credited back to the payment card within 14 working days.
If, for any reason the refund has not been credited back to the payment card within this time frame, then please contact us by email at parking.clientteam@barnet.gov.uk to arrange an alternative refund method.
Prices
Builders permits for a specific vehicle are priced at £46.50 per month or £377.50 per year.
Any vehicle builders permits for are priced at £92.50 per month or £754 per year.
Please be advised that the NSL Apply parking permit system may send a request to authenticate your payment, for example via your banking app. Therefore, it is important that this authentication is completed to ensure that you successfully complete the purchase of your parking permit.

Pay Now
If this payment method is selected at the point of a new parking permit application. A pop up window will appear prompting you to manually enter the card payment details and submit the payment at that point. For any future changes of vehicle on that given parking permit application where a surcharge is automatically generated. This amount will automatically be debited from the card used for the initial payment. You will not receive any pre-notification of this by email.
Online After Approval
If this payment method is selected at the point of a new parking permit application. You will not be prompted to enter any card payment details. Instead, after submitting the parking permit application, you will receive an email to notify you that the application (once approved) is ‘waiting for payment’. You will then be prompted to log into your NSL Apply Parking Permit account to make a payment to activate the permit.
Use Registered Card
You can register a payment card in the ‘manage account’ section of your NSL Apply Parking Permit account. If this payment method is selected at the point of a new permit application, this means that the payment will be taken from the registered card (providing the card has sufficient funds and has not expired). For any future changes of vehicle on that given parking permit application where a surcharge is automatically generated. This amount will automatically be debited from the registered card. You will not receive any pre-notification of this by email.
Terms and conditions of use
- The permit only allows you to park in a "Resident Permit Holders Only" or "Permit Holders Only" parking place during the controlled hours, making sure that the same zone identifier letters displayed on the permit appear on the sign.
- The permit does not allow you to park in "Business Permit Holders Only" parking places, Pay and Display bays, yellow lines or any other parking restriction.
- The permit may only be used in a shared use parking place where the signs indicate the zone identifier wording in condition.
- The issue of a builder's permit does not guarantee the availability of a parking space nor does in render the council subject to any liability in respect of loss or damage to the vehicle in a parking place or the contents or fittings of the vehicle.
- The permit can only be used while carrying out building works in the zone for which the permit is valid. Evidence of no works being carried out may result in a Penalty Charge Notice being issued and the permit being withdrawn.
- The permit must be displayed on the front windscreen of the vehicle so that the details are clearly visible from outside the vehicle.
- Parking places may be suspended by any person duly authorised by the council or police. A builder's permit is not valid in a parking place where signs indicate it is suspended.
- It is prohibited to use a vehicle in a parking place in connection with the sale or offering or exposing for sale of goods.
- The maximum number of annual builder's permits issued to a business shall be three.
- If an annual permit is lost or destroyed the council may replace the permit once an administration charge has been paid. The replacement permit will display the same expiry date as the previous permit.
- If an annual permit is no longer required the council may arrange a refund for the remaining number of full calendar months, once the original permit is returned to our office. The refund is calculated from the date the permit is received and will be for any full unused months. It is recommended that you send the original permit by recorded delivery post as without this permit we cannot arrange a refund.
- The council may revoke a permit if it is believed that the permit is being misused. Where a vehicle has three or more outstanding penalty charge notices issued that have progressed to 'charge certificate' stage (by this stage there is no longer a right of appeal) then a new or renewed permit will not be issued for that vehicle until the outstanding penalty has been paid or the matter otherwise resolved.
- Failure to comply with these conditions may result in a Penalty Charge Notice being issued to your vehicle.
- A goods vehicle with an overall height greater than 2.3 metres may not make use of a parking place during controlled hours.
