Step 2: Home visit
Once you have filled in an application, a member of the team will visit you at your home and meet with your household.
We will talk to you more about the role and discuss the suitability of your home for Shared Lives.
Step 3: The assessment process
The assessment process will be completed over a series of meetings either in person or online.
We will want to know more about your life, your home, your family, and your community.
We will chat to you about why you want to become a carer, and the skills and experience you can offer someone.
As part of your assessment, we will carry out checks on you, your household, and your home.
Step 4: The panel
A report of your assessment will be presented to the Shared Lives panel where they will decide whether to recommend you to be approved as a Shared Lives Carer.
The assessment process usually takes about three to four months.
You will be assigned a Shared Lives Officer to help you through the assessment and panel process.
Training
We will provide you with all the essential training required for the role.
Training sessions are available online, or in person and are structured to cover the standards set by the care certificate.
Matching process
The matching process is where we introduce the Shared Lives Carer to a potential match.
This can take place over a series of meet ups in the Carer’s home giving both the Shared Lives Carer and the individual the opportunity to spend time with each other.
The pace of the process is down to you and an arrangement will not be made until all parties are ready to commit.
Your Shared Lives Officer will check in with you after each meeting and support you throughout this process.
